Today we took a trip to San Francisco. We met up with my cousin there and she brought us to this amazing fabric store. It is called Britex Fabrics. There are 4 stories and each level is covered in a large array of gorgeous fabrics pricing anywhere from $5 per yard to $200 per yard. There are exotic Italian silks to beautiful wool suitings. We had to walk out with something so we found a few remnants and an intricate embroidered scalloped, swiss dot cotton material that I would like to make myself a skirt with.

A Little Fabric Shopping on Vacation
Today we visited a little quilt shop in Windsor, CA. It was small but packed with lots of fabrics and trims. We also went to a boutique shop called Cupcake. It was a good place to get decor ideas and children's dresses inspiration. Here's a few pictures from our explorations.
The lady who ran the store actually made this table! What a great idea!
This is just a door that she put shelves on!

Summertime Tea Party
For the past several weeks Rose, Ruby and Crystal have been trying to earn their sewing class goal by finishing some projects and doing well in their lesson. They made it. They helped put together the invitation and gave them to each girl in their class. The sun shone beautifully today which was perfect for our tea party. Ruby and Crystal came over a little earlier and helped set it all up so it would be ready for everyone else. Our theme was vintage summertime. There was good food, candy and fruit punch as well as croquet and slip n' slides for the activities. The girls really enjoyed being with each other and it was also enjoyable for us to get to be and talk with them. That's part of what makes sewing classes worth it for me!
As you can tell by all the pictures, I've been having alot of fun with Adobe Lightroom lately!

Sewing Class Students...and some projects...
Today I decided to post a little display showing our sewing classes and a few projects some of the students have completed. In case you didn't know we gave sewing lessons, now you do! We love to teach children and adults. All of our students are so excited about making things with their own hands and completing a project, that they have all drastically improved from the first day the walked in the door.
All of them began at the basics of making a simple doll quilt with lots of squares, so they could learn the basics of the machine, as well as how to sew a straight line. i.e. backstitching, right sides together, pressing etc... after that they all moved to harder projects...I am amazed sometimes at what my students go home and do on their own...they really pick up on sewing fast!
Most of these girls are excited about running our business when they get older! I can't wait til they take it over...it will be incredible!
Here are a few pictures showing our classes and some completed projects...

Western Wear Week...
These last couple of weeks we have been making western outfits for a wedding. We did quite a few outfits for little girls. We also made matching dresses for the band that was singing at the reception. It was so much fun to design each outfit. Customers showed us a picture of what they wanted, and we created it for a perfect custom fit...
Here are just a few of the many outfits we made.
Kathryn made her own outfit! |
