Repaint...Redecorate...Reorganize

Yes, we were at it again. Something about me loves to redecorate and organize our shop. This time we went a little further and repainted the shop too. Our goal was to change it from being "girly" looking to very classy. After a couple weekends of working on the painting we finally finished it. I love how it turned out and if you like it too I provided the paint colors below.

Paint Colors:
Martha Stewart: Wild Turkey (brown)
Martha Stewart: Driftwood Gray (blue)

We also did some redecorating. I changed the dresser to Spring decor (since we are definitely ready to be done with winter ;-)

Then we made a chalkboard out of a picture we had sitting around. You can get chalkboard paint from Home Depot or Lowes. I just painted right over the glass of the picture and it worked perfectly! It makes a great centerpiece for this new work area.

For our fitting room we made vintage looking hooks. We bought some wood plaques from Joann Fabrics and painted them white. We found these vintage looking door knobs at Anthropologie and attached them to the plaques. Now we have some great hooks for the dressing room!

We moved our trims shelf to the wall opposite the fitting room wall so you don't see it immediately when you walk in the sewing studio room. With the new paint color the colors pop off the wall so nicely!

Our Shop...fabric from SF

First off we haven't posted finished pictures of our shop for a long time but a lot has changed in the past few months so here are a few photos.

This is looking from the entry way.

Here's one of the fabric we purchased at Britex Fabrics in San Francisco. It is and embroidered swiss dot eyelet. We are designing and making dresses for ourselves with it. We started pleating the skirt yesterday!

How to Sew a Binding on A blanket...

Here's an instructional video that teaches how to sew a satin binding onto a blanket. It is very simple to do so you can make cuddly blankets and even give them away as gifts. Let us know if you have any questions about it!

Sewing Studio is Almost Done...Gardening Around the Shop

Over the weekend we worked on our flooring and got everything organized in our new sewing studio. We have a temporary set-up for now until we get our cabinets and new cutting table, but I must say the extra space is very, very nice. The crown molding and the base and door trim still needs to go on but other than that it is pretty much done!

Right now our cutting table and shelf is where our future cabinets will be

Because it was gorgeous weather on Sunday we also got some gardening accomplished around the shop. We put wire up for our raspberries and weeded them out.
We put our hanging pots out now and are ready to plant our barrels with petunias!

We're Finally Painting!!! Time Lapse Video

Last night we got a big accomplishment done. It's been a long time coming but it finally came; we painted our new sewing room! We invited Bethany over to help us since she loves painting and we got it cranked out. Now it looks so warm and inviting and I think it coordinates nicely with our chocolate brown and pink colors. Here is a time lapse video we made of part of the painting job. Enjoy!

It was great having Bethany help us out!

This morning we got out to here early and started on the new section of floor. It is starting to look so nice! I think tonight we will finish it off - YEAH!!!!

Our Studio is Coming Along!

Over the past week a lot has happened in our new sewing studio! The electrical has been finished, and most of the sheet rock has been put up. You all probably thought our favorite place to shop has been a fabric store...but lately it has been Home Depot. We went there to look at cabinets, storage ideas and lots more things for our new area. We also have contacted some friends in the flooring business about getting our entire shop carpeted with industrial carpet! I can't wait...I will actually feel like someone can bring their beautiful wedding dress in to a professional space, and not have it dragging on cement floor etc... We are also looking at getting a very large cutting table that we can put storage drawers underneath. Now all we have to do is work, make lots of sales, and save for our flooring and storage. Oh and we also are looking into more shop display items such as, an adult display mannequin, another boutique style clothing rack and anything else that will help display our items....

So please if you know of anywhere to get these items or have any ideas that might make our workspace more efficient and organized, please please please, let us know!

Now looking at it from the opposite angle...(on the right is our new fitting room)

a little more to the right of the room from the last picture (on the short wall we want shelves for fabric bolts)

This is the wall we want to put built-ins on, with a desk area, drawers for patterns, and cupboards

Our Sewing Studio...in progress

For quite a while now we have been bursting through the seams of our shop. We have less and less storage areas, but more and more fabric, we don't have a dressing room :( and a few other things... so we got to work on designing a new addition on to our existing shop. We are planning to make this room our "sewing studio" (built-in shelving to display fabric and notions, large cutting table, walk-in storage closet, dressing room and more!) So far the framing and wiring are completed so now it's to work on the insulation, sheetrock, mudding...(we'll see how it goes this time-we learned alot when we did our existing shop :) Let me give you a walk through of our new area! Oh and you can let us know any of your design ideas -(things you like about your sewing room that could help us.) Enjoy!
